In our latest rendition of “Windy Peak Women’ we hang out with Celeste Johnson, AKA the Beauty Operator at Parlour, her beautiful space in downtown Livingston, Montana.

Celeste is a staple to our community, not only for cutting hair but for much needed long chats and therapeutic hang outs. She is extremely talented and intuitive in her style and cuts everyone’s hair (even my 5 year old) with so much love, innovation and intention.

Celeste was born and raised in Montana and wanted to be a hairstyled since she can remember. Her sister and she would go to Dahl's College of Beauty in Great Falls when they were kids to get haircuts and perms and she remembers thinking back then that she wanted to be a hairstylist. She has now been doing hair for 12 years, and is just now starting to feel like she is developing her own personal style and aesthetic when it comes to haircuts. The bobs and fingerwaves of the 20's combined with the curly bangs and mullet-y shapes of the 80's are a lot of what she references when looking to curate a look for a client.  She’s also often inspired by the 1920's and 1980's for her own personal style. Lace, art deco patterns, glitz, and jewel tones are all continuing themes in her home decor and wardrobe. She’s fun!

Along with styling hair for her clients at Parlour, Celeste is as an educator for Mr. Smith.  This venture has her traveling to other salons to teach haircutting classes and attending New York Fashion Week as part of the Mr. Smith creative team.  Styling hair backstage at NYFW has always been a dream of Celeste’s and it’s incredibly inspiring to see it all become a reality for her.

Celeste is a woman of many talents and makes some incredible playlists. Her latest being ‘ Parlour Springtime’ . The playlist encapsulates the feelings that go along with her favorite season here in Montana.

“The feeling that you get in your body when the days are getting longer, the tree buds are starting to pop, and things are getting green is one of the most magical feelings in the world to me.  I really go inward and cocoon in the winter, so it feels incredible to emerge in the spring with fresh energy, inspiration, and creative force.”

Thank you for the good chat and all the haircuts Celeste. xx
